How this map was made
Nobody outside Rockstar has seen the map of Leonida. What exists is a reconstruction — and it is a genuinely impressive one.
Who made it
The map is maintained by YANIS and built collectively by the GTA VI Mapping community, a Discord of around sixteen thousand people. It carries well over a thousand points of interest and has been through more than a dozen major revisions.
It lives at map.stateofleonida.net — not here. We embed it with credit; the work is theirs.
What it is built from
- Official trailers, analysed frame by frame
- Official screenshots and pre-order artwork
- Coordinate data surfaced from the engine
- Months of cross-referencing between contributors
How accurate is it?
Coastlines and the relative position of the six regions are likely to be close. Individual streets, and anything derived from a single background frame, are best treated as a good guess. It is a reconstruction, and it says so.
On 19 November all of this gets checked against the real thing. Expect it to have been broadly right and specifically wrong in places — which is remarkable for something assembled from trailers.
Why we do not host our own copy
Because it would be theirs with our name on it. Linking and crediting costs us nothing and keeps the people who did the work in the picture. If we ever build our own map, it will be because we drew it.
